Installation

How long does air conditioning installation take?

Less time than most people fear. A single room is typically a one-day job. Here's a realistic timeline and what actually happens while we're there.

One of the most common questions before booking is simply "how disruptive is this going to be?" The honest answer for most homes: not very. A typical single-room system goes in and is running the same day, with one neat hole through the wall as the only real trace of the work.

Typical timescales

SystemWhat it coversTime on site
Single splitOne roomAround 1 day
Multi-split (2–3 rooms)Several rooms, one outdoor unit1–2 days
Whole home (4+ rooms)Most of the house2–4 days

The free survey happens beforehand, so the installation day itself is just the fit.

What happens on the day

  1. Walk-through — we confirm the agreed positions for the indoor and outdoor units with you.
  2. Indoor unit — the wall bracket goes up and the unit is mounted.
  3. Pipework — a small core-drilled hole takes the insulated pipes and cable through to the outdoor unit.
  4. Outdoor unit — sited on a wall bracket or ground stand and connected.
  5. Commissioning — the system is vacuum-tested, charged, run up and checked, and you get your paperwork.
  6. Handover — we show you the controls and tidy up.

What can add time

  • Access — an upstairs or high outdoor unit that needs scaffolding or a platform.
  • Long pipe runs — the further the indoor unit is from the outdoor one, the more pipework to route neatly.
  • Making good — any plastering or decorating around the entry point.
  • Multiple indoor units — each head adds fitting and commissioning time.

A proper survey is what keeps the day on schedule. Measuring the room, checking access and planning the pipe route up front is how we avoid surprises — and give you a fixed price rather than a guess. Book a free survey to get yours.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to install air conditioning?

A single-room split system is usually a one-day job. Two or three rooms take one to two days, and a whole-home system two to four days depending on access and pipe runs.

Is it messy?

Tidier than most people expect. The main mess is one core-drilled hole through the wall for the pipework, which is made good afterwards. We dust-sheet the area and clear up before leaving.

Do I need to be home?

Someone should be there to give access and agree positions at the start, and to be shown the controls at the end — but you don't need to watch the whole job.
