The £7,500 heat pump grant explained
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes a big chunk out of the cost of going low-carbon. Here's how it works and who can get it.
Switching from a gas boiler to a heat pump is one of the biggest steps you can take to cut your home's carbon footprint — and the government will help pay for it. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers a grant towards the cost of installing an air-source heat pump.
How much is the grant?
The scheme currently offers £7,500 towards an air-source heat pump in England and Wales. It's paid to your installer and comes straight off your quoted price — you don't have to claim it back yourself.
Who qualifies?
- You own the property (homes and small non-domestic buildings are eligible).
- You're replacing fossil-fuel heating (gas, oil, LPG or electric).
- You have a valid EPC, usually with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation.
- The installer and equipment are MCS certified.
How ClimaTight handles it
We take care of the grant process as part of the job: confirming your eligibility, applying on your behalf, and simply deducting the £7,500 from your quote. You see the net price up front, with no paperwork headache.
Grants and figures change. The scheme has been extended and its value increased in recent years. We'll confirm the current grant amount and rules for your property when we survey.
Is it worth it even with the grant?
A heat pump still costs more to install than a like-for-like boiler swap, even after the grant. The payback comes from lower running costs and a warmer, future-proof home — and from not having to replace a gas boiler that's on borrowed time. We'll give you honest figures so you can decide.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get the £7,500 as cash?
No — it's paid to your MCS-certified installer and taken off your quote, so you simply pay the reduced price.
Does air conditioning qualify for the grant?
Standard air-to-air air conditioning does not qualify. The grant is for air-to-water (and ground-source) heat pumps that provide your home's heating and hot water.
